Obituary for John Martin Christian

John Martin Christian, 87, died Monday, February 4, 2013 in Durango, Colorado. Private memorial gatherings are planned.

Mr. Christian was born December 8, 1925 in Los Angeles, California the son of Fred and Dorothy Christian. He served in the Navy as a radioman during World War II from 1943 through May of 1946. He married Joanne Tennant in 1947 had a son, John Jr. and they divorced in 1957. He married Celeste Furtsch on March 15, 1957 in Las Vegas, NV. John worked at Dun & Bradstreet in Los Angeles and two other states for over 40 years, retiring in December,1986. John and Celeste moved to Durango in 1988 and then back to California in 2002. John and Celeste were married for 47 years until Celeste passed in 2004.


After Celeste’s passing John was reacquainted with Joanne Frahm in 2005 and they were married in 2009. They lived in Oceanside, CA, and Michigan.

John was an avid golfer, had a passion for college football (especially the USC Trojans), NFL football, and professional golf. John also enjoyed crossword puzzles, Miller Lite, and chocolate. He particularly loved spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife, Joanne Christian, of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and her two children. John’s Children: John Christian, Jr. (spouse: Marilyn) of Houston, Tex., Robert Buell (Spouse: Gala) of Blue Springs, Mo., and Cherie Morris (spouse: Jack Llewellyn) of Durango, Colo., a brother: Fred Christian of Citrus Heights, Calif., six grandchildren, and many friends.


He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Celeste.
