Virginia Chavez, 87, passed away on January 15, 2015, surrounded by family. She was born to Nemecio and Cleofes Vialpando in Ignacio, CO, on July 26, 1927. Virginia lived in Ignacio most of her life until she and her husband, Ben Chavez, moved to Pagosa Junction, CO, to farm.
Virginia was a homemaker and wonderful cook, especially known for her delicious pies. She also enjoyed gardening and canning.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Ben Chavez.
She was a loving mother to her children: Ben Chavez and Ida (Kevin) Curry; Cherished Grandmother to: Amber (Stephen) Parks, Danyett (Jarrod) Baxter, Richelle Curry and Megan Curry; Great-Grandmother to: Peyton Parks, Sam Parks, Victoria Baxter and James Baxter.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Hood Mortuary Chapel from 12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. The rosary will be recited, also on Thursday, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2015 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Immediately following services, burial will take place at Ignacio West Cemetery, CO.
