Obituary for
Mary C. Chavez
Mary C. Chavez, 77, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, was called from this life by our Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 24, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Celestino and Julia Duran, her sister Carolyn Young, brother Joe Duran and grandson Brandon Padilla.
She is survived by her children Joey Padilla of Durango, Colo., Danny Padilla of Farmington, N.M., Becky Chesnut of Red Mesa, Colo., and Kelly Padilla of Farmington; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; sisters Claudine Garcia of Durango, Sally Valdez of Arboles, Colo., Della Moreno of Durango, Emma Herrera of Roswell, N.M., and Alice Vigil of Denver, Colo.; and brother, Rick Duran, of Durango.
Mary was a very loving person who spent as much time at the river fishing as she could. She also used to save all her quarters, not for her laundry, but for the casino. She enjoyed eating out a lot at her favorite restaurants.
She loved spending time with her family, but her heart was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“Mom, grandma, we will miss you very much. It brings us comfort knowing you are no longer in pain and are dwelling in the house of the Lord,” said her children.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango. Burial of cremains will occur after the Mass at Greenmount Cemetery.
