Charles (Chuck) Wages, born September 28, 1952 in Hobbs, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024, at the age of 71. Chuck was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his generous and joyful spirit.
Chuck spent his early years in Hobbs, New Mexico, before moving to Durango, Colorado in 1972 with his wife of 50 years, Jeanette Wages. In Durango, he attended Fort Lewis College and began his lifelong career in hospitality, initially working at Sweeney’s Grubsteak Restaurant. His passion for the hospitality industry flourished as he went on to own multiple restaurants, hotels and nightclubs in Hobbs. He and Jeanette moved back to Durango in 1996. He later became Food and Beverage Director at Purgatory Resort and then Manager at Durango Mountain Club.
An avid motorcyclist, he loved riding his Harley, embarking on long road trips across the western United States with his wife and friends.
A passionate home chef, Chuck delighted in cooking creative and delicious meals for his loved ones, always aiming to bring joy through his culinary creations. He lived his life with a warm and open heart, never meeting a stranger and constantly seeking to make others laugh.
His legacy is carried on by his children, Dylan Wages (Allyson) and Morgan Kimsey (Mark); his four grandchildren, Hannah, Alex, Warren, and Elijah; and his siblings, Tommy Smith, Mark Wages, Tracy Hawkins, and Kris Shamburger.
Chuck will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his unwavering kindness, vibrant spirit, and the laughter he brought into this world.
The family will hold a memorial service at 4:00 on June 3, 2024 at the Edgemont Highlands Community Lodge.
