Michael Cavanaugh

October 16, 1950 — January 7, 2017

Michael “Mike” Patrick Cavanaugh 66, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at his home on Saturday January 7th, 2017. His lovely wife and son were at his side.

Mike was born on October 16th, 1950 in Los Angeles, California. As a child he moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he spent many years growing up. Soon after graduating from Glendale High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his Country honorably. Upon completing his time in the Armed Forces, Mike came back to Phoenix where he would then meet and fall in love with his Beautiful wife of 43 years, Margaret Cavanaugh. They had a son together, Craig Michael Cavanaugh, and not long after, Mike moved his family to Durango, Colorado where they would become long time residents.

After 4 years of school and working hands on with electrical contractors he began his career as a journeyman electrician. He practiced his trade in and around the Durango area for over 40 years and in that time had accomplished many amazing things, making him one of the most skilled and admired people in his profession. For the last 16 years of his career Mike worked alongside of his lifelong friend Donnie Moffat, owner of Buckskin Electric. “Work as hard as you can and get it done no matter what it takes”, were just a few of the words Mike lived by.

Mike had a great appreciation for the outdoors and the beauty that Colorado had to offer. He was a hunter, fly fisherman, and loved sports of all kinds with a recently developed passion for the game of golf. He enjoyed spending countless hours manicuring his lawn and keeping his home looking as nice as the day it was built. More than anything Mike enjoyed being with his family, which to him was the center of his life and his absolute greatest accomplishment.

Mike was an extremely strong, proud, devoted family man and it showed daily. He cherished his wife, son, and beautiful granddaughters dearly. He touched the lives of so many people and made friends wherever he went.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife Margaret (Margie aka Nana) his son Craig and his beautiful granddaughters Micaylah and Gracie Cavanaugh. He is also survived by his two lovely sisters Debra Rock and Sharon Peckinpaugh as well as many other family members and friends.

To celebrate Mike’s life his family will be hosting a private gathering at the Cavanaugh residence in Bayfield Colorado.
