Obituary for
Richard D. Cass
Richard Douglas Cass died Saturday, October 1, 2011, in Durango, Colo. He was 57.
Mr. Cass was born September 28, 1954, in Tulsa, Okla., the son of Norman and J’Ann (Joyce) Cass. He graduated from Tulsa Memorial High School in 1972 and attended OU and Central Missouri State University, majoring in accounting. He preferred restaurant work, developing his culinary skills in various Tulsa restaurants before moving to Durango, where he enjoyed developing menus and cooking at mountain resorts.
Richard was an avid reader who also enjoyed music, baseball, photography, crosswords, board games, and cards. He embraced all that the Colorado mountains had to offer, spending his free time hiking, mountain biking, snow skiing, trout fishing, camping, and off-roading. He derived the greatest pleasure in sharing these adventures with his friends and family, especially his nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, J’Ann Cass, in 1999.
He is survived by his father, Norman S. Cass; sister, Cynthia Cass Clark; brother-in-law, Ed Clark; brother, Rob Cass; and sister-in-law, Renae Cass; all of Tulsa, Okla.; two nieces, five nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. Services will be held at a later date in Tulsa, Okla.
