Jack Carmack, 91, died, November 28, 2014, in Mancos, CO. Funeral Services will be Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Pine River Valley Baptist Church in Ignacio. Rev. Joel Tetreau will officiate. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Jack was born, raised and lived his life in La Plata County. Born August 28, 1923 in Bayfield, Colorado- son of Oscar Walter and Mary Lena (Darnall) Carmack. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He spent most of his life as an entrepreneur and business owner, selling everything from IH tractors to Edsel Automobiles and Case tractors.
He married June Brown in Durango in 1946. To that marriage were born 4 children: Judy Green (Darrell), Jacque Langford (Steve), Jill Richards (Jerel), & Jon Carmack (Susie), 7 grandchildren & 16 grandchildren. He married Helen Davis Campbell in 1991 - Stepchildren from this union are: Carol, Louella, Pam, and Pat, & 3 step-grandchildren. His current wife is Dorothea Sponsel Wielang. To this union there are stepchildren: Linda, Carol & Mark, 5 step-grandchildren, & several step-great-grandchildren. He is well loved by numerous nieces & nephews.
Jack served on a number of local boards: La Plata Electric and Tri State G&T. He was also a life member of Elks Lodge #507. Jack especially loved square-dancing and western dancing. He enjoyed travel, water skiing, and picnicking. He adored his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and great friends.
He is also survived by a brother, Dick Carmack (Verna).
He was preceded in death by 2 spouses, 3 grandchildren, 10 brothers & sisters.
