Obituary for
Mary Alice Cannon
Surrounded by her children, Mary Alice (Faragher) Cannon passed away in Durango, Colo., on January 9, 2012. Mary Alice was born Dec. 24, 1931, to Dr. James L. and Alice (Gorby) Faragher in Shaker Heights, Ohio. She was the loving mother of Cat Lambert of Durango, Bill Cannon of Greensboro, N.C., Alison Cannon Yawitz of St. Louis, Mo., Colleen Cannon of Nederland, Colo., and Jim Cannon of Colorado Springs, Colo., and grandmother of 12 grandchildren. Mary Alice's first great-grandbaby is due in July! She is survived by brothers Jim and Billy Faragher of Cleveland, Ohio, and sisters Joanne Weppner of Boca Raton, Fla., and Patsy Sahm of The Villages, Fla. Mary is known affectionately as "Auntie Mame" to her many nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved as her own.
Mame adored family, sunshine, ice cream, friends, politics and good laughs. A business innovator, she opened "Home Buddies" to provide child and eldercare services to those in need. She belonged to the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce, Huntsville Women's Tennis Association and the Huntsville Athletic Club. She was a championship golfer and tennis player, and never tired of planning to hit tennis balls with her beloved "tennis ladies" right after swimming and just before her bike ride!
The family owes a debt of gratitude to staff at Four Corners Health Care Center for the loving attention and many kindnesses shown Mary and the entire Cannon family. Tributes in Mame's memory may be made to Four Corners Health Care Center's Resident Activities Department, 2911 Junction Street, Durango, CO, 81301.
