Rachel Cameron
Rachel Cameron, 46, of Durango, CO, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday July 28th 2016, surrounded by her loved ones. Her fight with ovarian cancer was an inspiration to all. Rachel was born in Perth, Western Australia on September 9, 1969 to Janene and Brian Tangney. A beach babe, she grew up in sunny Perth, Western Australia excelling at competitive swimming. After achieving a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and working as a registered nurse, she set off at the age of 22, backpacking to the United States. Rachel fell in love with Durango and Durango fell in love with her. Her work helping families in need left an indelible mark on the community. She worked for Community Connections, Inc., the La Plata Family Center and volunteered for many non-profits in her community. Rachel also had a small business where she enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. Rachel is survived by her daughter Emma Cameron, son Nicolas Cameron, both of Durango CO, mother Janene Adey, sister Jane Tangney and brother Ryan Waldock, all of Perth, Western Australia. A memorial service will be held at Hood Mortuary 1261 E. 3rd Ave, Thursday August 4th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Way of Southwest Colorado at www.unitedway-swco.org
