Carmella Caira passed away peacefully Sunday, January 28, 2018, at her home in Durango, Colorado. She was 87 years old.
Carmella was born October 17, 1930, to Gabriel A. Ruffolo and Assuntina (Vena) Ruffolo in Marano Principato, Italy.
She immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 15. Carmella married Alex Caira in 1950. They relocated to Southern California, where they raised their family. When she retired, Carmella moved to Florida where she lived for 10 years, then to Durango to be closer to her daughters.
Carmella’s number one priority was her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved spending time with them. She was very active, working out at the Durango Sports Club several times a week, where she had many dear friends.
Carmella is survived by her daughters: Joyce (Bill) Watt, Linda (Tim) McIlvain, Grandchildren: Melissa (Keenan) Holt, Katy Watt (fiancé Nate Herder), Sister: Maria (Carmine) Puntillo, Nieces: Stephanie Puntillo, Sarah Puntillo, and Suzanne Puntillo (Alexandro Silver Duran), Nephews: Stephen Puntillo, Billy (Jane) Ruffolo, Mike (Angie) Ruffolo, Mark (Sandra) Ruffolo, and Great Nieces: Samantha Ruffolo, and Emelia Puntillo Silver, Great Nephew: Mario Ruffolo.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alex, grandson, Alex Head, parents, and siblings: Frank, Dolores and Mario Ruffolo.
A Mass will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 10 a.m., at St. Columba Catholic Church, in Durango, Colorado. Burial will occur at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Simi Valley, California, on Saturday, February 10, 2018.
