Obituary for
Bernadine Rudd Bullock
Bernadine Bullock, 80, died Sunday, October 19, 2014 in Durango, Colorado. A memorial service will be held at the Silverton Church on the Hill on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Bernadine will be interred at Hillside Cemetery.
Bernadine was born July 20, 1934 in Southland, Texas the daughter of Bernerd and LaVerne Rudd (McCormick). She grew up in Ropesville, Tex. and graduated from Ropesville High School. She graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Tex with a degree in Music Education. Bernadine obtained her Master’s in Music Administration from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She met L.E. “Chief” Lawson while at Hardin Simmons University and they were married on July 25, 1954 – the marriage later ended in divorce in 1980. She taught High School Choral Groups in Hale Center, Irving, Grand Prairie and Lewisville, Tex. She also taught in Jefferson County, Colo., Zionsville, Indiana, Albuquerque and Artesia, N.M. Bernadine was a church organist and choir director in many churches throughout her life and performed in the Opera in Denver, Colorado. After her teaching career she brokered real estate in Albuquerque, N.M., and Woodland Park, Colo. Her last employment was Activities Director at Scherrick Assisted Living in Lubbock, Tex.
In addition to her love of music, Bernadine loved the mountains of Colorado, Denver Broncos football, and watching the Colorado Avalanche. Her main love was to reach out to young people and show them how to receive the love of Christ in their lives through her living example, teaching and sharing.
Bernadine was married to Jack Reed Bullock on January 26, 1981 and he passed in 1985.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Mark and Susan Lawson of Silverton, Colo., and Monty and Dianna Lawson of Flower Mound, Tex.; a sister, Rhonda and James Killough of Taylor, Tex.; 3 grandchildren: Shane Lawson, Tyler Lawson, and Cody Miles; and nephew Nathan Killough.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bullock, two nephews: Rodney and Scott Killough, and her parents.
