Mr. Bruce was born February 5, 1947, in Long Island, N.Y., the son of Norman and Ellen Bruce. He grew up in New York for several years before his family moved to Mexico City for five years. They returned to New York for a short time before moving to the Miami/Kendle region and settling there.
Mr. Bruce has worked at many different careers. When he was young, he helped out on the family tomato farm for 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1976. Kevin served as a member of the High Noon Rotary Club and the Wednesday Morning Rotary Club. He served on the board of Bank of the San Juans in Durango for a short time, as well as the Animas Mosquito Board. He donated his time and finances to serve those in need in the Durango area.
Kevin’s passion was racing vintage race cars. One of his many treasured collectables was a classic Mustang Shelby. His favorite track was Sebring Raceway in Florida, but he had raced at such notable tracks as: the Denver Grand Prix and the Miami Grand Prix. He loved to work on cars, and he had just finished restoring an Austin Healy 3000 from the frame up, and he did all of the restoration himself. Other notable cars he had owned were a Triumph TR-6 and a MG-GTB.
Mr. Bruce enjoyed Lake Powell and loved to travel – especially in Italy. Kevin also enjoyed his time spent with family while traveling in his motor home. He was a member of the “Car Guys Club” that met every month at the Kennebec Café in Hesperus. He also enjoyed cooking.
