Donald Bruce Brown, 86, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, in Durango, Colo., after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Durango. Cremation will occur in Durango. Mr. Brown was born January 10, 1927, in Wichita, Kan., the son of Glenn and Grace Brown. He attended the University of Kansas and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. His college career was interrupted when he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon his return, he obtained a degree in geology and was successful in the petroleum industry; he worked for four years with Tenneco Oil. He went on with management positions with Edwin L. Cox, Southland Royalty, ending his career as a board member with Global Marine. Don was an active member of his church home and, while in Durango, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church as a Vestry Member. Of the many homes and places that he lived, Don loved Durango the most. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Alberta, of Durango and Sun City West, Ariz., three daughters: Katherine Pershern of Dallas, Texas, Elizabeth Quealy of Pinedale, Wyo., Margaret Webber of Chugiak, Alaska, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
