Carl A. Brown was born April 19, 1929 to Leonard and Iola Jane Brown in Durango. He was called to serve the angels on August 7, 2015.
A lifelong resident of La Plata County, he went to primary schools in many of the numerous Durango and Bayfield area schools prior to consolidation. Carl graduated Durango High School with the class of 1946 and he served his country in the U.S. Army beginning in 1950 and was honorably discharged after his tour of duty. Carl married in June of 1956 to Freda Beuten.
He worked as a saw miller, excavation contractor and cattle rancher and served his community as a Bayfield school board member in the sixties and seventies. Carl was a founding member of Upper Pine River Fire Protection District and served both as a board member and firefighter.
Surviving him are his wife Freda of the Cool Water Ranch, daughter Carol Richardson (Charlie) of Oxford, son Randy Brown (Leslie) of Dolores, grandchildren: Big Brandon, Michael, Little Brandon, Andrew, Carlie, and Trevor, great-grandchildren: Americus, Sara, Malachi, Michaela, Damien, Lexie, and Rowan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter: Sgt. Sara Mae Richardson.
A funeral celebrating Carl’s life will be held on Saturday August 15, 2015 at 1pm at the Bayfield High School Center for the Preforming Arts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Salvation Army or the Upper Pine River Fire Protection District Auxiliary.
