Barbara Joice Britten (Carroll)
Barbara Joice Britten, 85, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, in Durango. Mrs. Britten was born Dec. 31, 1928, in Clovis, Calif., the daughter of Hamp and Alice Carroll. She graduated from high school in San Diego in 1946. She was married to Chuck Branton for 17 years, and they had four children. For 15 years, she was married to Walter Zebrowski, a retired Naval captain. She was then married to Harold Britten, a Canadian fishery operator, for 16 years. Mrs. Britten was affectionately called, “Goo Goo” by her grandchildren, according to family. She was “always quick to laugh, loved a good joke, enjoyed reading, games, puzzles and poker,” they said. “She was loved very much by all who knew her.” After living much of her life in San Diego, she lived in Durango with her daughter’s family. She was preceded in death by her husbands Chuck Branton, Walter Zebrowski and Harold Britten. She is survived by sons Chris, Paul and Jay Branton, all of San Diego; daughter Robin Coats of Durango, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cremation has occurred at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. A celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Flynn Springs Park, in Flynn Springs, Calif..
