Alfred Eugene "Gene" Brittain
Alfred Eugene “Gene” Brittain, 69, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 at his home in Hesperus, Colo. Private services will be held at a later date and burial will occur at Marvel Cemetery in Marvel. Mr. Brittain was born December 5, 1943 in Animas City, Colorado the son of Donald and Linna Brittain. Alfred grew up in the Marvel area with his mother and step father, Bandy B. Hubbs and attended schools there. When he was a teenager, he helped his uncle build houses then he began working as a gas station attendant for Ernie Schaaf’s filling station. He eventually bought his own dump truck and ran his own business--hauling sand and gravel. He liked to frequent coffee shops in Durango--slowing down and spending time there, visiting with other people. Since Gene had a long white beard, children would think that he was Santa Claus.
He is survived by Linda Brittain (wife) of Hesperus, Colo., Larry J. Hubbs (brother) of Farmington, New Mex., Robert B. Hubbs (brother) of San Diego, Calif., Kenneth R. Hubbs (brother) of Kirtland, New Mex., Linda Semadeni (sister) of Hesperus, Colo. and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step father.
