Michael James Bourriague passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at home in Durango, Colorado. He was 51 years old.
Michael was born June 2, 1966, to Jack and Marinita "Nita" Bourriague in Taos, New Mexico. He grew up in Durango and attended Schools in Durango (St. Columba, Smiley Jr. High) and graduated High School in Wasilla, AK where he was involved in the High School Newspaper. He then attended Fort Lewis College and graduated with a degree in art and business. While at Fort Lewis, Michael "DJ'ed" at KDUR and contributed to a literary publication, AWRY (An Independent Literary/Arts Magazine).
Michael owned and operated Southwest Painting in Durango. He worked in construction and painting throughout his professional career in the Durango area.
His interests included a love of all genres of music, writing poetry, reading books, drawing, and silk-screening.
He is survived by his children: Wren, Adrian, Aven and Mirra; Parents: Jack and Nita of Ignacio, Colo.; brother: Peter (wife-Jamie, Daughter-Bryce) of Niwot, Colo.; and numerous extended family, and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Nettie and Alfred Lujan; paternal grandparents: Milton and Mildred Bourriague; aunts: Patricia Ann Mirabal, Natalie Jean Noche, Joan Carol Bourriague.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, April 20, 2018, at 4:00 p.m., at Hood Mortuary Chapel.
