Mable Florene Birket (Lanning)
Mable Florene Birket, a long-time former resident of Durango, passed away on January 31, 2017 in Mesa, Arizona, surrounded by her family. She was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on October 12, 1923 to Granville and Celia Mae Lanning. There she met and married Wilbur “Bill” Birket in 1942, and had 4 children. In 1952 the family moved to Durango where they built homes on Birket Drive and the Four Winds Motel, which they operated for 25 years. After retiring they moved to Mesa, Arizona where Bill passed away in 2001, and Mable continued to live and maintain their home there until her death. Her family was her life.
She is survived by, her daughters Karen Buchanan, Tudy Townsend and Patricia Bainter, son Bob Birket, her 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
There will be a visitation on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 2pm-3pm at Hood Mortuary, 1261 E 3rd Ave., Durango. A graveside service will be on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 10am at Greenmount Cemetery, Durango.
