Olive May Bennett (Crawford)
Just five days before her 90th birthday, on April 29, 2014, Olive May Bennett died at Four Corners Health Care Center. Olive was born to Floyd and Frances Crawford on May 4, 1924 in San Diego, CA. She graduated from San Diego High School in 1942. She married William (Bob) R. Bennett in March of 1946. During World War II, she was employed at the North Island Naval Training Center as a photographer.
After her marriage, Olive was a homemaker. She and her husband raised two sons, William (Ed) E. and Fred in San Diego during the 1950’s and 1960’s. She was always able to get her boys to sports events, baseball games, the golf course, and the beach or music lessons. She was a member of the El Cajon LDS Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in Relief Society work. She also enjoyed working with the Pink Lady Hospital Volunteers. Olive found beauty in everything she did. She enjoyed attending family gatherings and parties and especially holiday events. She moved to Durango to be near her family in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998. She is survived by sons, Ed (Barbara) of Durango and Fred, numerous nieces and nephews both in Colorado and California.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Burial will occur at El Camino Memorial Park and Mortuary in San Diego, CA.
