Obituary for Angela Marie "Angie" Barry (Gomez)

Angela Marie “Angie” Barry died Saturday, October 26, 2013 in Durango, Colorado. Visitation will be held at Hood Mortuary on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 1, 2013 at 2:30 P.M. at St. Columba Catholic Church and Father Kevin Novak will be officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango. Mrs. Barry was born March 27, 1939 in McPhee, Colorado the daughter of Raymond and Verna Gomez. She grew up in Dolores, Colorado and Denver, Colorado. The family moved to Durango in 1956. Angie attended the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Neb., and obtained a degree in the medical field. She began her career at Mercy Medical Center as a Registered Laboratory Technologist and assisted and spread her talents among many departments at Mercy. Angie met the love of her life, John H. “Bud” Barry in Durango; they were married on September 27, 1958 at St. Columba Catholic Church. Bud and Angie owned and vigorously operated Barry’s North American Van Lines and has moved many La Plata county families across the nation. Angie was a talented and gifted painter and artist. She practiced calligraphy, cake decorating and she absolutely loved music – especially the piano. Angie gifted others with her cooking abilities and overflowing generosity. After retirement, Angie worked at Wal-Mart and was well known and loved around the store. “Mom was a giving, caring and hardworking individual who accomplished many feats.” her family fondly remembers. She is survived by her children: John Barry (son) of Durango, CO, Bernadine Barry (daughter) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Sheri DeFrancisci (daughter) of Ben Lomond, California, siblings: Art Gomez (brother) of Santa Fe, N.M., and Syndi Ranson of Franklinville, N.J. three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John “Bud” Barry, her parents and two infant brothers, Robert and James Gomez. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Manna Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 1196, Durango, CO 81302.
