Obituary for Stanley Eugene Austin

Stan Austin passed away on January 4, 2016. As a true native of Durango, Stan was an avid Colorado historian and loved to share stories about this state that he so loved.
Stan was a banker at Burn’s National Bank in Durango, Colorado Bank and Trust in Delta, and other banks in the area.
He enjoyed hunting, horses, motorcycles, and all outdoor activities. He was a basketball referee and enjoyed watching sports; especially when his kids were involved. He was active in public service with fiesta Days, Elks Club, his church and many other service organizations.
Stan is preceded in death by his son, John William Austin and daughter, Diana Kay Austin.
He is survived by the love of his life, Opal Waters, sons Robert (Connie) Austin (Rockwall, TX), Mark (Lori) Austin (Grand Junction, CO), and daughter Connie (Hal) Schoo (Gilbert, AZ). He leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Stan also leaves behind numerous friends and family as he never met a stranger.
Services will be held on Friday, January 8th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 2 Hilltop Cir Durango, CO at 10:00 am. Floral or monetary donations to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund) are appreciated.
