Joan Ashback

Joan Ada Boom-Ashback, 83, formerly of Gunnison, CO, passed away on March 17, 2022 surrounded by family in Farmington, NM. Joan was born in to Joseph and Ada Boom on January 8, 1939. She attended High School in Gunnison, CO. Joan married John Ashback on May 13, 1970 in Farmington. She worked as a secretary for Benson, Montan & Greer in her early years.

Joan and John had three children, Chris, Jo Renée and Paige. Joan had an exciting and fulfilling life. She was Elvis Presley’s #1 fan, having a shared birthday, she was a renowned Southwest Artist, known for painting Shiprock and beautiful pottery scenes. She will be greatly missed.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Raymond, Donald and Leland Boom; as well as her daughter, Jo Renée Russell.

Joan is survived by her spouse John Ashback Jr.; children: Chris Russell and Paige Vaughan; 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Joan’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Holly Abernathy, Heidi Cunningham, P.A.LS and Basin Hospice for all their care and kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
