Anthony Clyde "Tony" Archuleta
Anthony Clyde “Tony” Archuleta, 62, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in Ignacio, Colo., due to natural causes. A rosary and viewing will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 8 p.m. Cremation will occur and then Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 24, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Sky Ute Casino Event Center. Burial of cremains will follow at Greenmount Cemetery with full police honors. Mr. Archuleta was born June 18, 1951, in Durango, Colorado the son of Joe and Mary Archuleta. He grew up in Durango, attended school and graduated from Durango High School in 1969. He attended Ft. Lewis College, and it was there that he met Bernadette Sisneros. They were married in Durango on February 20, 1970. He joined the Durango Police Department as a reserve officer in 1976 and in 1979 became a full time patrol officer. He has held most positions at the Durango Police Department including Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Administrative Sergeant, Investigator, and retired after 33 years of exemplary service in April of 2009. After enjoying one year of retirement he began working again as a security guard at the Sky Ute Casino and then joined the Southern Ute Division of Gaming as an investigator. Tony enjoyed photography and wildlife, genealogy research, and riding his motorcycle. Most of all, Tony loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Bernadette, of Durango, his daughters, Melanie Archuleta and Marcia Barela both of Durango, and his grandchildren: Shayla, Kenny, Eric and Roman and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
