Nita Mae Forde Anderson was born on January 24, 1937, near Dolores, Colorado to Thomas Hugh and Margaret Agnes (Davison) Forde. She started nursing school, but was swept off her feet by her future spouse (of 62 years) Donald Anderson and began her journey into life as an Air Force wife. Most important to her were God, family, friends and her dog Buddy and lots of hugs. Her numerous interests included hospitality, sharing, learning, teaching and serving. She loved being outdoors in nature, fly fishing, hunting, camping and bird watching. She was always amazed at the beauty that God surrounded her with. She had multiple artistic hobbies, painting, needlework, leatherwork, sewing, celebratory cakes, that she shared with many. In her later years, as her health declined, she spent many hours knitting prayer shawls and making sunshine cards for encouragement as her ministry.
She is survived by her husband, Don; siblings, Doreen (Wallace) Bruce, Eddie (Marsha) Forde; her children: Margie (Jim) Winkelbauer, Donna (Mike) Gomez, Don, Jr. (Kim) Anderson and Carolyn (Wayne) Thompson; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and a grandson. Nita passed away on March 10, 2017 surrounded by her family at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, CO.
Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive, Durango, on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
