Obituary for Margaret M Allen (Britt)

Long time Durango resident Margaret Allen-Schumacher died April 21, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center due to causes of incident to age. Margaret was born February 9, 1924 to Claude and Christine Schmidt Britt in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Mrs. Allen-Schumacher attended Durango High School her senior year and was excused from classes in January to go to work for the Rio Grande Motor Way and still graduated with her class of 1943. She went on to a career with the First National Bank of Durango spanning several decades. Her first position with the bank was secretary to A.M. Camp, became a loan officer, and then retired in1989 after working as assistant vice president for the bank. Margaret was part of the founding board of the Durango Education Foundation.
She married Hugh A. Raubeson in 1946 and then married James G. Allen in 1954, she then married LeRoy Schumacher on May 12, 1999 and enjoyed the recent 15 years with the love of her life. Margaret was descendant of German pioneers who settled in the San Luis Valley at Center, Colorado. She spent her formative years in Albuquerque before moving to Del Norte, Colorado. The family then moved to Durango in the early 1940’s. Margaret took a year off of school and worked at the Fort Lewis Campus in Hesperus, sewing uniforms for our troops.
Mrs. Allen-Schumacher is survived by her loving and devoted husband LeRoySchumacher of Bayfield, Co., children Kathy Wilson (Gary) of Moab, UT., Gordon Allen (Brenda) of Bayfield, Co., Mark Allen of Durango, Co., and Jeanne Dittmar (Henry) of Durango, Co., seven grandchildren and her sister Eleanor Brown- Cornelius of Nashville, TN. Margaret was preceded in death by her brother Claude Britt.
Memorial Services will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Hood Mortuary Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Greenmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice of Mercy, Fort Lewis College or the Durango Education Foundation.
