Lupe M. Alexander
Lupe M. Alexander, 83, passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 at home in Ignacio, Colorado, surrounded by her loving family. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio. The Mass will be held Friday, February 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Father Douglas Hunt will be officiating. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango.
Mrs. Alexander was born July 4, 1929 in Ignacio, Colorado the daughter of Manuel and Encarnacion Jaques. Lupe grew up on the family ranch: she attended school at the Harvey School (south of Ignacio). She was part of a large family of 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
She married William “Junior” Alexander in Aztec, NM, in 1957. Lupe faithfully worked at Ignacio Schools in the cafeteria for the past 40 years. Ignacio Schools will be dedicating the cafeteria at the new elementary school in her name – “Café Lupe”.
She was preceded in death by her husband William “Junior” Alexander in 1998, Grandsons: William John Shahan, and Bobby Romine, Great-granddaughter: Mariah Lorenzini, and 6 siblings.
She is survived by her children: Viola Shahan of Houston, TX, Douglas Jacquez of Oakley, CA, Debbie Herrera of Ignacio, CO, a sister: Teddy Orton of Grimes, IA, 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, one great-great-grandchild, and all of her students, and many other beloved families in the Ignacio community.
Memorial contributions will be accepted at the services, or on Saturday, February 9th at the Ignacio Elementary School from noon until 9 p.m.
