Joseph Martin Bradberry Jr., died in Ignacio, Colorado on February 9, 2021. He was born March 27, 1945 in Fort Rylie, Kansas to Joseph Martin Bradberry Sr. and Madeline Irene Smith. Joe was raised in Ackerman, MS on the Bradberry family farm as a young boy. He attended and graduated high school in Denver, CO. Joe was a Vietnam Combat Veteran and a former United States Marines. He attended Fort Lewis College, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Science. He later obtained a master’s degree in Psychology from UNC. Joe worked extensively with the Native American communities in Towac, Co and Shiprock, NM. He later worked in the Alamogordo School District as a Dean of Students and school counselor where he retired in 2010. He enjoyed working cattle on the ranch in Ignacio owned by his son-in-law Lee Smith of Ignacio. Joe enjoyed watching his grandchildren show livestock and compete in shooting sports in La Plata County 4-H. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed being outside in nature. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and PBR on Sundays with his wife of 51 years, Janice Marie Bradberry. He is preceded in death by Joseph Martin Bradberry Sr. and Madeline Irene Smith. Joseph is survived by his wife Jan of Ignacio, CO, his daughters Patricia Smith of Petal, MS and Beckie Schleeter of Ignacio, CO, grandson Thomas A. Bradberry Schleeter of Ignacio, granddaughters Keanna Smith of Ignacio and Teagan Schleeter of Ignacio, his sisters Patty Ford and Cheryl Warkins and brother Claude Warkins of Colorado Springs, CO and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family would like contributions made to St Jude’s or and American Cancer Society.
