Concetta "Connie" Trontel

CONCETTA (Connie) BONAVENTURA TRONTEL
Connie Trontel passed away on October 26, 2018 at the age of 98. She was born on May 2, 1920 to Dominick and Maude Bonaventura in Durango, Colorado.
She graduated from Durango High School in 1937. After graduation she moved to Silverton, Colorado, where she worked at the family owned Buttercup Bakery. Some of her fondest memories was the time she spent in Silverton with her family and many friends. She moved to Rockford, Illinois with her brothers and sisters and worked as a telephone operator but returned to Silverton where she worked as the chief telephone operator. Her favorite story as an operator was when a fire broke out at a home in Silverton and the button that she normally pushed to alert the volunteer firemen was frozen. She ran down the street and pulled the rope bell at the fire house to sound the alarm.
She met and married Harry Trontel, in 1946. They had two children while living in Silverton. The family moved to Durango in 1953 where she was the personnel supervisor for F.W. Woolworth for 33 years. In her later years she was always pleased when someone would stop her on the street and tell her they remembered her from Woolworths. Connie volunteered at the Methodist Thrift Shop until she was 93.
She always enjoyed her Tuesday and Thursday mornings at “work” and the wonderful people she worked with and met.
She had a friendly, quiet demeanor and loved everyone she met. Her golden years were spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by all that loved her.
Connie was a life long member of St. Columba Church and in her earlier years walked to church every Sunday.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980, her brothers Nick and John Bonaventura, sisters, Margaret Phillips and Madeline Kucyznski. She is survived by her son, Ed Trontel, daughter, Mary Ann Trontel, and brother, Frank Bonaventura of Seattle, WA. 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
No services will be held per her request. Donations may be made to the Methodist Thrift Shop in her name.
