Margaret James, 89, of Durango, CO passed away on October 4, 2018 at home. She was born on December 1, 1928, in Pharr, TX to Louis Lamont Temple and Faye Sellers. She was the youngest of 3 children, her siblings were Lamont Temple and Rodney Temple. Margaret married Sam James on September 17, 1949 in Ft. Worth, TX and together they had two daughters. They moved to Durango in 1973 from Hurst, TX.
As a child, she worked at a dairy milking cows in the morning before school. As a teen, she trained horses. This cultivated a love for horses that remained her entire life. Later, she assisted her husband with his custom woodworking business. She was a singer in her adult life, performing for weddings and funerals. As an active member of First Baptist Church in Mancos, she taught Sunday School and sang. She had a deep love of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Spending time with family and friends was important to her. She had an artistic flair, sketching horses, and painting flowers on ceramics. Baking pies and giving them to friends, brought her joy. She loved the Colorado outdoors, fishing, camping and hiking. She liked to pick choke cherries, and make jelly and syrup; and created a candy by accident.
She is survived by daughters, Malaine Pearcey of Durango, and Cindy Heller of Pagosa Springs, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Sam, and grandson, David White.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Mancos, CO on November 16, 2018 at 10:30 am.
