Rosabelle Archuletta

November 9, 1927 — August 29, 2018

Rosabelle Louise Sanchez Archuletta, born to Fred and Rosabelle Sanchez in Saguache Colorado on November 9, 1927, passed away on August 29, 2018 in Durango Colorado.

She is survived by her children Judy Saiz (John) of Denver, James Archuletta (Kathy), Jane Hoops (Marty), Joy Hess (Richard) of Durango, and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as extended family and friends.

Rosabelle was a precious, pure soul who walked on this earth. Her mother died at her birth leaving behind a husband and family of seven. She often said she was born into this world alone, but alone she never was. She met her husband, Earl, at a very young age and was married immediately. She often spoke of her job as a “soda jerk” when they fell in love at first sight. Earl was soon drafted into the army and served in World War II as a very young man. When he returned, they started their lives together in road construction moving from town to town. Over the years, they covered territory all over New Mexico and Colorado with their young family.

Rosabelle very honorably and proudly started the family she never felt she had growing up, devoting her life to her children. Rose was a woman of true, pure beauty externally. She had auburn hair and green eyes with a small physique and a huge smile. But her true beauty was always her pure soul and her faith in God that never ever wavered. She was self educated and bravely raised her family in difficult times. But she had the biggest heart when it came to giving of herself to her family and giving everything she had to someone else who needed “it” more. Rose was married to Earl for 68 years before his passing. At which time, her life changed forever.

Remarkably, the family saw her as “Mom.” Always there for us no matter what, loving us unconditionally, fighting for us and teaching us. As the years went by, she lost her site and needed more assistance. As her life started to unfold in new ways, it was discovered what was truly in her heart. She was a writer and a poet and an avid reader. Not formally educated, she made it a point to self educate. She studied the bible, wrote and memorized poetry, and learned of current events to understand the ways of the world. She had so much potential to do whatever she wanted in life, but what she wanted was to have her family always at her side and love one another and her dream was achieved. She passed away surrounded by more love than can be articulated here.

God Bless you Mom, Grandma, sister, wife, friend, our Rose. You will live forever through each one of the lives you touched.
