Condolences

Condolence From: Rachel Casillas
Condolence: Grandpa Gary came into my life in 1997, when I met him at my Mom and Alan's wedding. He and Dotty took the train from California to Minnesota to celebrate with them. While he was visiting he stayed a little over a week and I learned a lot about him in that week. He liked adventure, and for a man in his 60's I was impressed he had the guts to get in an inner tube and be drug at high speeds across the lake. Next to me his was the tubing champ! I also learned that he had terrible taste in beer - O'Douls! (if you can even call it beer) And at 16 I probably shouldn't have been such a beer snob but I was... I also learned that Grandpa was a very open and loving man. I clearly was not his grandchild by birth but he treated me like family, like he had known me my whole life. He loved me and it didn't matter that I wasn't of blood relation, I was family and that was that.

I learned many other things about Grandpa over the 20+ years I was his granddaughter. Sometimes I wasn't receptive to learn what he had to say and or teach but he taught be a lot. I consider myself blessed beyond words to have been given the opportunity to call him Grandpa. I'm also very thankful that this past August my husband Fred and my daughter Cataleya were given the opportunity to come and visit with him while he was still in good spirits. While Cataleya may not remember her Great Grandpa, I have photos to preserve the time she spent with him and I have 20+ years of memories to share with her.

While Grandpa is no longer here with us in the flesh he will be forever preserved in my memories. I loved him very much but I'm thankful he's not hurting anymore. He's in Heaven with Grandma Dotty, Uncle Max, and my Mom. I love you Grandpa and you will always be in my heart.
