Robert Davoust

June 2, 1963 — November 19, 2017

Robert “Bob” Shawn Davoust, of Durango, CO, died surrounded by his loved ones on November 19, 2017 from multiple myeloma. He was 54.

Bob was born June 2, 1963 in Grand Rapids, MI to June and Donald Davoust. He graduated from Portage Northern High School (Portage, MI), Ferris State University with a degree in Automotive Service Technology, and from Western Michigan University with a degree in Marketing. He married Tracy and the couple had two children, Stephan and Joshua. Bob worked at Eaton Corporation in sales and engineering for 19 years, in Galesburg, MI and in Dallas, TX. In 2002, Bob moved his family to Durango where they indulged their love of the great outdoors, in skiing, cycling, and camping. In Durango, Bob founded his automotive repair business, Village Auto Care, for which he took great pride in and received tremendous satisfaction from building a loyal customer base and a successful business. He enjoyed interacting with his customers, sharing his expertise in fixing whatever ailed their vehicles, and contributing to the community of Durango. He celebrated his 50th birthday in 2013 by riding the Iron Horse Bicycling Classic, a 50-mile bike ride from Durango to Silverton. Bob was a loving, outgoing, hardworking man with a quick smile and an easy laugh. He was the kind of man that people trusted and respected. He valued and maintained long lasting relationships and had a wide circle of friends. Bob gave everyone he met all the best he had to offer.

His family and friends will remember him for his eternal energy, his generosity, his dedication to his sons and, most of all, his wonderful sense of humor (that he amazingly maintained through the very end of his year-long battle with cancer).

Bob is survived by his sons Stephan Davoust and Joshua Davoust, whom he shared with former spouse Tracy Nelson, mother June Davoust of Portage, MI, sister Stephanie (David) Swierenga of Minneapolis, MN, brothers Michael (Candy) Davoust of Fishers, IN and James (Maria) Davoust of Lovettsville, VA, niece Melissa Davoust, nephew Andrew Swierenga, and devoted partner Melissa Zureich of Durango, CO.

Preceded in death by his father Donald J. Davoust.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be scheduled at a later date.
