William “Bill” Elwood Nelson passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, he was found in his sleep at his home in Vallecito. He was 64 years old.
Bill was born September 17, 1953, to Leroy and Thelma (Hall) Nelson in Brooklyn, NY. In 1973, Bill moved to Durango, Colorado, to attend Fort Lewis College under a football scholarship. After college, he married the late Joni Gutierrez. They had two sons, Jordon and Adrian Nelson. Bill was loved very much and will be missed by so many people.
Bill is survived by: his sons: Jordon and Adrian; 2 grandchildren: Kaiyah Rose Joni Nelson and Adrian Leroy Nelson, II; and his mother-in-law: Liz Gutierrez. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joni.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 254 E. 5th Ave., Durango.
