Ida Holland

Ida Mae Holland passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017, in Durango. She was 87 years old.

Ida was born January 24, 1930, to Joe and Jencie Mae (Rogers) Crocker in Handley, TX. After graduating from high school in Chillicothe, TX in 1946 Ida Mae then attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX. It was while she was in Abilene when she met and fell in love with Richard Holland, whom she married in 1948. She graduated from Hardin Simmons with a degree in Human Services in 1950.

After college, Ida Mae and Richard moved to Fort Worth, TX, where Richard attended Seminary. After Seminary, they moved to Colorado, where they served in ministry for many years before moving to Oklahoma and then Texas before finally moving to Durango, CO in 1998.

Ida Mae cared for people and for many years used her social work training to serve elderly and needy people in both Colorado and Texas. She was also a loving wife and mother caring for her four children

Over the years, Ida Mae and Richard started several churches in Colorado. Ida Mae loved the ministry and served in various capacities including teaching, working with youth, playing the piano, and serving as house parent for the Buckner Boy’s Ranch in Burnett, TX. Ida Mae spent her life serving and loving the Lord Jesus and wanted others to know Him and experience His love and grace.

She is survived by children: Azariah "Rick" Holland of Denver, CO, David (Lois) Holland of Yakima, WA, Janice (Clyde) Johnson of Hesperus, CO, and John (Sharon) Holland of Johannesburg, South Africa; 11 Grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who knew her as "Great-Mother".

She is preceded in death by her husband: Richard Fredrick Holland; siblings: Billie Joe Crocker, Charles Crocker; and her parents: Joe and Jencie Mae (Rogers) Crocker.

A funeral Service will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 11:00 am at First Southern Baptist Church, 1715 W 2nd Ave, Durango, CO. Burial will occur at Crown Hill Cemetery, on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
