Obituary for Harry Lee Jarrell

Harry Lee Jarrell, 101 years, of Durango, Colorado, died Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Cottonwood Inn Rehabilitation & Extended Care Center.

Mr. Jarrell was born November 29, 1915, in Delagua, Colorado (a small coal camp near Trinidad), the son of Ricahrd Lee and Stella Mae (Gillen) Jarrell. He graduated high school in 1934, married Dorothy Tomsha on November 2, 1936, and five children were born to the family. The Jarrell's moved back and forth from Colorado Springs to Littleton and also had lived 10 years in Texas. IN 1979, the Jarrell's moved to the Durango area. At Dorothy's passing in 2011, they had been married 74 years. Mr. Jarrell enjoyed riding horses, western movies and television shows, working at the glider field, Wednesday morning breakfast club, and attending church and Sunday school. He was a member of the Colorado Oddfellows, Animas Valley Grance, the Colorado Mounted Ranger (retired as the oldest Ranger ever), and the La Plata County Mounted Patrol (honorary member).

He is survived by Elaine Heikkinen (daughter) of Farmington, NM, Larry Jarrell (son) of Farmington, NM, Linda Partridge (daughter) of Durango, CO, Paul Heikkinen (grandson) of Cape Coral, FL, Lora Heikkinen (granddaughter) of Albuquerque, NM, Kelsey Lancaster(granddaughter) of Durango, Kyle Patridge (grandson) of Bothell, WA, Ambre Holley (granddaughter), and 11 great grandchildren.

He as preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, their sons Harry Lee Jarrell & Donny Lee Jarrell, their granddaughter Sarah Heikkinen, and four brothers.

A private burial ceremony was held at Greenmount Cemetery on Saturday, June 3, 2017, for both Harry & Dorothy.

A Celebration of Life of Harry & Dorothy Jarrell is planned on July 1, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Come help celebrate Harry and Dorothy, the amazing life they shared together, and the legacy they left.
