Monty Moore

Monty Moore: stuntman, Warrior, father, and ardent lover of life and sport, left this sphere kicking and fighting on Good Friday, April 14, 2017, at 12:45 a.m., after his 7 year battle with cancer. He was born April 3, 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Aubrey Eugene (Gene) Moore and Mary Pauline Marshall Moore. He attended Wichita Falls High School participating in football where he and his teammates distinguished themselves by winning the Texas State Championships in 1969, and Monty was All-Conference on both of the offensive and defensive side of the ball. He was then offered and accepted a full football scholarship to the University of New Mexico where he acquired a Bachelors Degree in Communications, and while there once again distinguished himself enough to be drafted into the World Football League and also spent time with the Houston Oilers. After his playing days in pro football came to a close he spent time in various activities including water skiing where he was a member of the Tommy Bartlett Water Show as a barefoot skier and stuntman. He ultimately transitioned to Hawaii where he made his home for several years, and while there enjoyed a variety of adventures including one of the original Hobie Cat franchisees, participated in the Iron Man Competition, won the Hawaii State Arm Wrestling Championships, and most importantly, joined the Hollywood Stuntmens Association. As a stuntman in Hawaii he was the stand-in and stunt double for Tom Selleck on the very popular television series Magnum PI. While in Hawaii in 1984, he married Yonna

Cromeens and in 1986 Maris Makena was born. In 1990 the family moved to Durango, where Monty partnered in the Durango Mountain Bike Camps for several years and in the winter months helped to develop the Snow Bike program at Purgatory, as well as volunteering time with the Adaptive Sports in their winter and summer programs. The summer programs allowed him to share his water skiing prowess. He created and operated Monty's Moore For Less, a contracting business in Durango, for 20 years. Yonna and Monty amicably divorced in 2010. Several months later Monty was diagnosed with cancer. For his last seven years Monty has enjoyed his relationship with Anne Marron. Monty loved his friends, mountain biking, skiing, river sports, spending time with friends at Lake Powell, and enjoyed several sailing trips overseas to Thailand, Turkey and Greece. Monty is survived by his daughter Maris Makena Moore, father, Gene, his sister, Paula (Jerry) Vaughn all of Wichita Falls, a niece, Kristi, (Danny) and son Keyton and daughter Jennifer, a nephew Brian (Lisa) Moore, and children Maya and Aiden. His family and friends are welcome at a Celebration of Life at Steamworks Restaurant, of which he was an investor, Monday, April 17th, during the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..
