Gerald L Pope,
Beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the tender age of 81.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Pope; brothers: Joseph Pope and Michael Pope; daughter, Gina Heineman Pope; and sons: Gerald Pope, Joseph Pope, and David Pope; as well as 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, who all held him very dearly in their hearts.
Gerald proudly served in the Marine Corps as a Corporal where he worked as a fire fighter with the crash units for the air base. He was a mechanic by trade in the oil field chemical industry and also in the aircraft industry where he also joined their Haz-mat crews, utilizing his firefighting training.
Gerald was an avid motorcycle enthusiast for over 60 years and loved to ride his Harley Davidson through the mountain roads, especially from Durango to Silverton. He loved gardening and working to make his yard and his home beautiful. He was always first to give a helping hand to family and friends in need, or even a strangers. He was a great man and loved by many and will forever be in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 E. 3rd Ave., Durango, CO.
