Obituary for Calvin Clifford Maupin-Rickamn

Calvin Clifford Maupin-Rickman, 23, of Durango Colorado, passed away January 6th, 2017. He was born March 9, 1993 in Oklahoma City, OK to Tony Maupin and Melissa Rickman.

A proud member of the Chickasaw Nation, he attended school in Norman, OK and graduated from Norman High School in 2012. He attended Ft. Lewis College in Durango, CO.

There were many wonderful aspects to Calvin’s personality, and he touched many lives in very special ways. He will be remembered as a wonderful son, grandson, cousin, a loyal and comforting friend, and avid outdoorsman.

Anyone that knew Calvin knew that he loved being outdoors. This meant hunting, fishing, hiking, scouting, tracking, and playing frisbee golf. He hunted everything from buffalo to hogs, to fowl to elk and believed strongly in only hunting what he would eat. He worked magic in the kitchen, had a wicked sense of humor, a talent for all things mechanical, loved to read, loved music and had a kind, generous heart, just like his parents hoped. He was happily putting a strong work ethic and his flair with flavors to use at Durango Brewing Company. His family was proud of the life he was building and told him so.

Calvin is survived by his mother Melissa Rickman of Norman, Oklahoma, his father Tony Maupin and his stepmother Barbara Maupin of Arkansas; his maternal grandfather, Richard Rickman in Norman, OK; his paternal grandparents, Steve and Sherry Maupin of Midwest City, OK, his paternal great-grand mother Louise Smith, Midwest City, OK, loving cousins, aunts and uncles in the OKC area; his extended family in San Antonio, TX and numerous friends in all those areas and beyond. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Kaysi Brumit of Norman, OK.

A memorial service to celebrate Calvin’s life will be held Thursday, January 18th at 6:00 pm. in Durango, CO at Durango Brewing Company. Additionally, a service will be held Wednesday January 18th at 6pm at Sunny Lane Funeral Home, 4000 SE 29th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73115.

Together, may we acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift that his life was to us, and the pain his passing brings. In sharing this together today, may we lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy.
