Obituary for Marva Su "Su" Wilson (Stone)

Marva Su Wilson passed away quietly on December 25, 2016, following almost 60 years of struggling with the complications of Multiple Sclerosis. She passed away surrounded with close family and friends. Marva Su will be remembered as a loving mother of four boys, wife of John Henry Wilson for nearly 50 years before his passing, and dog lover of numerous "four legged children."

She was born into the Dust Bowl of the Great Depression in 1936, in Borger TX. Marva Su was the only child of Marvin and Cleone Stone and grew up just outside of Pampa, TX in an oil field community. Thanks to the hard work of her and her parents, Marva Su was able to attend the "most beautiful college in the world" the University of Colorado at Boulder.

While attending CU, she pledged Tri-Delta sorority, and served as an officer for the sorority, as she sought her elementary education degree. Set up on a blind date by a sorority friend with some "frat boy" from the neighboring school Colorado School of Mines, Marva Su met her future husband, John Wilson. Nearing the end of their first date, John and Su danced in the street to the music coming from a car radio. John and Su were engaged within 3 months, and married within six months, once John graduated from Mines. May 24, 1958 was quite a busy day for the two of them. John graduated from Mines in the morning, was inducted into the Army in the early afternoon, and was married to Su that evening.

Once out of the Army, Su and John had four boys within 8 years, all while moving several times for John’s job with Conoco, as head of field production. Accepting a large promotion, John, Su and family moved to Jakarta Indonesia and then to London, England. With John heading production for the North Sea, Marva Su was given the honor for christening a large ship with the Queen of Norway.

With her boys growing older, John and Su moved their family to Dallas, TX, where John took a job with a oilfield ship/rig builder. Marva Su took up club tennis and it grew into a passion. She also was a "mother" to numerous dogs that became her "pack." John retired and they moved to care for her father and John’s mother, both residing in Durango. Su doted on her dogs, her grandchildren and her friends in Durango for the last 25 years.

Marva Su was bedridden, due to the complications of MS, for the last 3 years. She never let the terrible disease bring down her spirits, never thought of herself, and was always a joy to be with, in spite of the daily pain she was in. She passed away on the birthday of her savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded with her family and her dogs. Rest In Peace Marva Su.

There will be a service on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 2pm at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 E. 3rd Ave., Durango, with burial to follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
