Frederick Folk

July 13, 1943 — December 10, 2016

Fred Folk passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends at his home in Bayfield, CO on December 10, 2016.

Fred graduated from Governor Mifflin High School in Shillington, PA in 1962. He was a classic car enthusiast, devoted to his Fords. He was a member of the Reading Society of Model Engineers and co-founder of the Durango Railroad Historical Society. Fred worked along with the other Historical Society members to re-build and restore the 315 train engine in Santa Rita Park with his grandson Donnie by his side learning the trade. Fred was a dedicated train enthusiast throughout his lifetime, building model trains and helping to coordinate local conventions. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Fred is survived by his wife of 50 years Jennifer L. Folk of Bayfield, CO; daughter Katrina (George) Walker of Aztec, NM; sister in-law Carolee Bittle of Kutztown, PA; sister Linda Earhart of Reading, PA; brothers Harold Folk of Mohnton, PA & Jacob Folk of Shillington, PA; granddaughters Amber Schwartz of Bayfield, CO, Ashley Schwartz of Bayfield, CO, and Lashonda Walker of Aztec, NM; grandsons Tyler & Donald Walker of Aztec, NM; grea- grandson Tavin Walker of Aztec, NM; great-granddaughters Taylynn Walker-Vigil of Aztec, NM, Kloe & Maci Britton of Texas; 6 nieces and 6 nephews all from the PA area. Fred was predeceased by his daughter Tammy L. Dunn (Folk).

A memorial service will be held at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 E. Third Avenue, Durango, CO at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Durango Railroad Historical Society, P.O. Box 654, Durango, CO 81302.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bill & Mary Miller, Bob & Judy G., Mark Z. from PA, Jay Matz, of course his Wednesday night buddies, and Durango Hospice of Mercy....our apologies if we forgot anyone!

As you climb aboard your journey to comfort, peace & happiness, we will be at the station, tickets in hand, until it is time for us to see you again.
