Obituary for Jean Carrie Sitton
Jean Carrie Sitton passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, surrounded by family. She was 85 years old.
Jean was born July 14, 1931, to Vance William McManus and Thelma Ellen (Thompson) McManus in Denver, CO. She grew up in Denver and graduated from South High School. She attended Colorado State University, where she met the love of her life, James Harvey Sitton. They were married in June of 1952 in Denver. Jim served in the Air Force, then they settled in Bayfield, CO, establishing and working the Sitton Hereford Ranch.
They were extensively involved with their children in the Bayfield 4-H clubs. She finished her schooling at Fort Lewis College and taught school in Bayfield for many years. While teaching, she established the elementary school library and music program. After retirement, Jean and Jim spent their time traveling the world.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; children: Kathy (Lynn) Achziger, Patty (Pat) McCrary, and Bill (Kathleen) Sitton; Grandchildren: Sonya Fontenot, Matthew Sitton, Michael and Richard McCrary, Greg Achziger, Emily Keegan, and Sarah and Noelle Sitton; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son, Thomas Sitton.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Interment will occur at Pine River Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Mercy.
