Glenn Johnston

December 26, 1942 — September 3, 2016

Glenn Dallas Johnston of Bayfield, Colorado passed away on Saturday, September 3rd, 2016 at the Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, La Plata county, Colorado. He was 73 years old.
Glenn was born to mother Clutha (Layton) Johnston and father Dallas Johnston on December 26th, 1942 in Mesa, Maricopa county, Arizona. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his older sister Janice (Johnston) Austin Webb, stepfather Joe B. Harvey, and brother-in-law Chester Lamoreaux. Glenn joined the U.S. Army right after high school then later served a two-year mission in Peru for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah where he married Maxine Bays on August 28th, 1970. Glenn graduated from BYU with a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and English. He furthered his education and earned a Master's Degree in Education from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado. Glenn was a teacher for 30+ years in the Ignacio School District in Ignacio, Colorado, where he taught Spanish and English at the local junior high and high school. His love of kids and education continued as he took on the responsibilities as the junior high school football coach and drove a school bus for the school district.
Glenn served time on the Bayfield Town Council in Bayfield, Colorado and he also served in many important ward and stake callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maxine (Bays) Johnston; daughter, Lisa (Johnston) Osborne and (son-in-law) Darryl Osborne; son, Brett Johnston and (daughter- in-law) Amanda (Moses) Johnston; sister, Betty (Johnston) Lamoreaux; brother, Carroll Monroe Johnston and (sister-in-law) Kelda (Johnson) Johnston; granddaughters, Elle Addison Osborne, Kennedy Tjej Osborne, and Peyton Jane Johnston; and grandsons, Breckin Chase Osborne, Landin Kenneth Johnston, Camron Dallas Johnston, and Chase Logan Johnston. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
