Obituary for Curtis Brian "Brian" Olguin
Curtis “Brian” Olguin passed away Saturday October 4, 2014 in Durango, Colorado. A rosary will be held at Saint Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio, Colorado on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 9, 2014 10:00 A.M. also at Saint Ignatius Catholic Church, officiated by Father Damian de la Cruz-Nuñez. Burial will occur at Ignacio West Cemetery, immediately following services.
Curtis “Brian” Olguin was born June 6, 1966 in Durango, Colorado. He is a life long resident of Ignacio, Colorado and a graduate of Ignacio High school. He is also a member of the Ute Mountain Ute tribe.
He worked numerous jobs in his lifetime as a construction flagger, a cook at Sky Ute Event Center, and a slot supervisor at Sky Ute Casino. He enjoyed traveling and has been to Mexico, Rome, Venice, Switzerland, Texas, South Dakota, and California. He made friends everywhere he went and was loved by all of them.
His passions included cooking, baking, sewing, softball, volleyball, tennis, and playing pool. He truly loved Halloween and made his costumes every year. You could find him out in Durango Halloween night playing people in pool and beating most of them.
He took part in his native culture by attending Bear Dance, Sundance, Powwows, and listening to traditional music. He always had respect for the elders and would tend to their needs as much as he could. His mother was his priority, you could always see them cruising around together and he took very good care of her every day and night. He attended the canonization of Kateri Tekakwitha in Rome, Italy and was a proud advocate for Kateri. He also took part in many church events and did what he could to help the Catholic Church.
He had multiple TV shows he watched like The Amazing Race, Bridezillas, The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, and Survivor. He loved his family very much, especially his nieces and nephews .
Curtis is survived by his mother Garnet Olguin of Ignacio. His sisters Edwina Watts, Sandra Olguin, Lorna Chavez, Marilyn Olguin, and Lori Olguin, his brothers Ronald Olguin and Anthony Gunn, all of Ignacio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and multiple family members in Towaoc, Colorado. His great grandparents Belle and Curtis Cuthair, numerous aunts, uncles, and nephews preceded him in death.
