Obituary for Cheryl Ann Ireland

Cheryl Ann Ireland, 67, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at home in Bayfield, Colorado. A graveside service will be held Monday, April 28, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. at Pine River Cemetery. Pastor Randy Ash of First Baptist Church will be officiating.
Cheryl was born October 23, 1946 in Orange, California, the daughter of Jack and Charlcia Gentry. Cheryl was a self-described “army brat”, who saw the world as she followed her Father’s career in the U.S. Army. She returned to Orange, California for her senior year of high school.
Later, Cheryl and a friend made a move to Hawaii for 18 months where she worked as a bookkeeper. Ready for another adventure, she then moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she would eventually meet Ronald, her husband. Ronald and Cheryl were married on April 20th, 1974 in Tempe, Arizona.
Cheryl’s fulfilled her calling to be a mother when her first child, Shasta was born in 1976. She had two more children, Nicholas in 1979 and Jarrette in 1981. Cheryl was passionate about her family and she loved being involved in her children’s lives. Later in life, she eagerly awaited the arrival of her grandchildren. She was a wonderful grandmother sharing her joy for family with her three grandchildren. Ronald and Cheryl moved to Bayfield to be involved in their grandchildren’s lives.
She valued her faith and was involved in volunteering in her church and the community. For many years, Cheryl was an active member of the Tatum Boulevard Church of Christ in Scottsdale, Arizona. Among her many volunteer projects, she helped coordinate an annual Christmas party for 400 needy families throughout the Valley in order to provide them with food, clothes and toys for the holidays. She actively supported Tatum's Youth Group and served as a missionary/chaperone to Tijuana, Mexico. Her faith was of great importance to her and she continued to pursue God's word through women's Bible studies and small groups at Tatum Boulevard Church of Christ and Christ's Church of Flagstaff.
Cheryl loved the mountains and Durango was a significant destination for her and her family. Having visited the area on their honeymoon, Ronald and Cheryl continued to regularly visit with their children. Cheryl’s love of traveling took the family on many great vacations together. She greatly enjoyed planning vacations and reminiscing about past adventures, almost as much as the trips themselves. Alaska became a family favorite.
Cheryl loved celebrating with her family and holidays were her favorite. Christmas around the Ireland household was especially important. Big Christmas dinners, a beautifully decorated house, and thoughtful gifts were always a part of the celebration. Cheryl celebrated life and her family every day.
She is survived by her husband Ronald Ireland of Bayfield, her mother Charlcia Gentry of Tucson, Ariz., children: Shasta Peet of Gilbert, Ariz., Nicholas Ireland of San Antonio, Tex., Jarrette Ireland of Bayfield, and three grandchildren: Bridgette, Lydia and Elijah, as well as sister, Shannon Sears of Tucson, brother, David Gentry, and other extended family. She was preceded in death by Father, Colonel Jack Gentry, and brother, Steve Gentry.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Operation Christmas Child, a program through Samaritan's Purse. Cheryl would have loved knowing that more children throughout the world are able to experience a better Christmas in her honor.
