Obituary for Eric Zwart

Eric Zwart born January 15th, 1986, died Sunday March 24th, at his home in Durango, Colorado. Eric was born to Steve and Janice Zwart in San Diego, California. Eric was a passionate individual who always lived life to the fullest. He was a fun loving friend, son and brother who always knew how to have a good time and provide laughter to anyone around him. Those he loved were of utmost importance to him and took center stage in his life. Eric lived his life on the edge always pushing himself and those around him to take risks, but all in the name of fun. Eric was a much loved friend to many and a willing and enthusiastic support system to those who sought his compassion. His sense of adventure was equaled only by his rare, sometimes offbeat wit. A funny story or hilarious prank was always lurking behind his infectious smile. Eric was one of those guys who was good at any hobby he picked up and especially excelled at skateboarding, snowboarding, and was an extremely gifted bass player, who played with multiple bands in Durango. Eric loved participating in outdoor activities such as camping, cliff jumping and hiking with his parents, brothers and sister, nieces and nephews and friends. He was a skilled carpenter and plumber who worked with many local companies. He is survived by his parents, Steve and Janice Zwart of Bayfield, his brother, Dan and his wife , Amy, Zwart of Delafield, WI, Sister, Haleigh, and her husband Jacob, Waitman (their children: Hunter and Clay) of Tuttle, OK, Sister in Law: Megan Duchon-Zwart (children: Michael Duchon, Mariya Duchon, Jacey Zwart and Jack Zwart) of Durango, Maternal Grandmother: Naydeen McMann of San Diego, CA, and Paternal Grandmother: Bonnie Zwart of Mammoth Lakes, CA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jason Zwart. A celebration of Eric’s life will be held this upcoming Monday, April 1st at the Schneider Park skate park in Durango in the northern most bowl of the skatepark. Please feel welcome to bring photos and memories to display and share. We will be sharing stories of Eric’s life throughout the memorial.
