Obituary for Rose R. Quintana

Rose Rebecca Quintana died Tuesday, November 22, 2011, in Durango, Colo. She was 89.

Rose was born August 12, 1922, in Allison, Colo., the daughter of Fermin and Mary Gallegos. She spent her childhood and elementary school years in Allison, Colo. Her family moved to Durango, where Rose attended high school and graduated in 1941. Rose went on to Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, and she became a registered nurse in 1945.

Rose married Joe D. Quintana December 23, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church in Durango. To this union, three children were born: Charles Andrew, Lauretta Eleanor, and Lawrence, who passed away in infancy.

In addition to being a homemaker, Rose enjoyed a career at Mercy Hospital in Durango. Rose worked in various positions in her career, with her last accomplishment as Head Nurse of the surgical department. Rose retired from Mercy Hospital after 39 years in 1984.

Rose is survived by her son Charles Quintana of Nampa, Idaho; her daughter Lauretta (Richard) Stahl of Littleton, Colo.; and four grandchildren: Rosanne Quintana Phillips, Christie Quintana Hale, Susan Quintana, and Robyn Stahl. Other survivors include great-grandson, Kaden, her sister Amelia DeVoe of Modesto, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and her three brothers, Manuel, Ross and Leo Gallegos.

Rose was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in various church groups and committees.

A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2011, at Hood Mortuary Chapel.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Gallegos C.R. of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 254 East Fifth Avenue, Durango, CO 81301.
