Ryan and Kristal Phelps and their daughter, Sarah. Ryan began at Hood in 1994 as an Evening Attendant. He began servicing funerals in 1996 and began directing services in 1998. He is a graduate of Durango High School and Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service. Ryan and Kristal purchased Hood Mortuary in 2005.
Marvin and Jo are life long Durango residents. Marvin has strong ties with the community and has owned businesses in this region. He began working at Hood Mortuary in 2001.
Amy began working part time at Hood in 1997 and in 2002 became a funeral director. She obtained a degree from Fort Lewis College in Music Education in 1997 and then a Mortuary Science degree in 2009. She and her husband, Antonio, are proud parents to Diego, who is now 2 years. amy@hoodmortuary.com
Tom, joined Hood's team in 2007. He is a Colorado Native. He and Missy are avid elk hunters and belong to and support the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Tom has owned businesses in Colorado and if he looks familiar, he was a fixture at the Mercy Medical Center lab prior to his employment at Hood.
Our receptionist and the first smiling face you see at Hood Mortuary, Sue Van Sickle, has lived in Durango for the past eight years. She and her husband Dick moved to the area from Rockford, Illinois, where Sue was Director of College Relations at Rockford College. Sue enjoys hiking and snowshoeing in the San Juans with her yellow lab, Buddy, and spending time with her husband and children.
K.T. (as she is known at Hood) has been Hood’s Aftercare Coordinator since 2008. She is a Colorado native who moved to Durango from Gunnison, CO. Before receiving her certification for grief management, Kathy was an accountant for fifteen years and a massage therapist for ten. Kathy’s first priority is her family. Together they enjoy everything Colorado. She is seen here with her husband, Rick and sons, Jake and Gabe. Not pictured is her beloved dog, Charlie.
Val Evensen Val was born and raised in Durango. He worked in the movie industry in California for 30 years, but returned to Durango to take care of ailing parents. He oversees evening visitation and also assists at funeral services. Val's 3 year presence has been an enriching experience for all the Hood staff!
